Running the Keevil 10k

Near Trowbridge, Wiltshire
June 2006

I had trained quite hard for this event, running 3 times a week with a 5 mile run at the weekend. The course was rumoured to be very flat, which made sense given that it is an airfield!

On the day of the race it was very hot. The route consisted of two laps around the air field. As well as being very warm there was a cross wind, which seemed very light in certain directions but also made it much harder to run along some of the straights.

At the half way stage I was feeling exhausted from the heat so took a few walking breaks. Unfortunately I swigged a big mouthful of water by accident, which made me feel sick for a brief moment.

I finally crossed the finishing line in 63:35, which was pleasing as I was aiming run it in under 64 minutes.

The signs to guide people to the race venue were very good, and there were plenty of activities for children. However, one disappointing aspect was that there was no official clock, and no mile/km markers around the route.

My time: 63:35
My average heart rate: 167
