The Benefits of Racing

Many people believe that racing is very competitive and that you have to be a good runner to take part…..well its not, and you don't!

In general, races that are for charity tend to be more relaxed in nature, with a lot of people taking part for fun and to raise money. The Cancer Research 5k and 10k races are good examples. Many entrants of the well-known marathons and half marathons also run for fun or charity. Some people even walk them, such as the Walk the Walk charity.

If you want to participate in the more serious races it is a good idea to join a running club or you can search for races on sites such as Runner's World .

Whatever type or distance of race you enter, there are many benefits to racing. These include…

  • Giving you a specific goal to work towards. This helps you to stay focussed and motivated.
  • The feeling of overcoming a challenge.
  • Reminds you that there are many other people out there who enjoy the same sport as you.
  • Gives you a feeling of team spirit and belonging to a community.
  • It makes running into a sociable event. Many people train on their own so this is a chance to make new friends.
